About Me:
I'm originally from Pittsburgh, PA and I think much of my rugby attitude is influenced by growing up with the Steelers. I started playing rugby my senior year of college, then joined the Village Lions RFC in New York City after graduation. In 2008, I came to Boston and played with Old Gold RFC for a year. In the Spring of 2011, I began helping as an assistant coach for Ironsides, and became the head coach in the Fall.
My preferred position is hooker, but I've propped on both sides. I've also filled in at almost every position.
Beside rugby, I've been a wrestler, rock climber, rower, ultramarathoner, adventure racer, and dabbled in many other sports.
How long I have been playing:
8 years
Favourite Rugby Moment:
Seeing Sully go over in the corner for a try last fall. It was the first well-worked try of the season, and brought together everything we'd been working for. From a good lineout, we drove a maul, then when it went down, we had a few quick rucks. Sully saw the space in the corner and dived over for the try.
What does playing rugby with the IRONSIDES mean to me?:
ITo me, Ironsides has given me the best opportunity possible for coaching. It's a team full of both brand new players and veteran old boys. Everyone wants to learn the game and get better as a team. Some clubs have high social barriers that are hard for new players to overcome. Ironsides welcomes everyone and it leads to a mutual respect for all players and the coaches. Every practice the team improves and we're building the necessary momentum for the future.
What would I say to someone thinking of joining?:
Come out and see if you like it. If you want to play rugby, this team will support you, no matter where you start. Because skills can be taught, and fitness developed, desire is the most important trait for a new player. |
