What does being an Ironside mean to you?
Being an Ironside means providing a healthy and comfortable space for folks to learn community values and develop athletic skills in something they may have never even heard of before. It's an inclusive space where players learn compassion for others while getting fully submerged in out LGBTQ community. What has being on the Ironsides changed for you? I have been playing for more than 8 years now, in predominantly white straight male spaces. At that same time, I was learning to accept my sexuality and my presence in those spaces. Yes, I had an accepting team, but my views on gay life were shaped by that same community, which knew nothing on the topic. When I joined the Ironsides, I became a fuller person with a stronger understanding of who I am and what it means to hold space in this world as a gay male of color. Tell us a secret! I once played for the national rugby team from Dominican Republic at a match against Turks and Caicos. What's the coolest thing you've ever done? I’ve climbed a few high peaks in the northeast with amazing. What are your other hobbies besides rugby? I volunteer with the American Red Cross as a Disaster Responder for the Greater Boston area. |
